A Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation branch in Carlsbad, CA, and the American Warrior Initiative (AWI) partnered to honor a veteran with a service dog. A residential housing “Boot Camp” was held in collaboration with the event to train real estate professionals on how to handle the home purchase needs of active duty and military veterans with excellence.
Robert, the honoree at the event, was a Vietnam War veteran who served as a war dog handler. When Robert left the war, he was forced to leave his dog behind. After returning to civilian life, Robert worked with security dogs in an effort to fill the void of the dogs he left behind. After 40 years of training over 1500 teams to work with service dogs, Robert was diagnosed with PTSD. Fairway and AWI were able to honor Robert with a service dog of his own from Custom Canines.
Throughout his time training teams to work with service dogs, Robert worked extensively with Custom Canines. This incredible non-profit organization is run by volunteers who work to create long-lasting partnerships between highly skilled service dogs and people with disabilities or impairments.
Branch Manager, Stacy Hunjadi, was honored to be part of this fantastic event! She said:
“The event was an amazing inspiration of getting people together in the community to see what we can all do to change the lives of veterans and to focus on serving those who serve. The feedback from the event was nothing but uplifting and encouraging. It has sparked those in the community to be watchdogs. They cannot wait until the next event.”
Founded by Louise Thaxton and Sean Parnell, The American Warrior Initiative is a non-profit organization, sponsored by Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation, which seeks to ease the transition for U.S. veterans between military and civilian life.
I am proud to work for a company that does so much to honor those who sacrifice for our country. If I can help answer any questions about VA loans or any other home loan options, give me a call.
