Fairway & AWI Help New England Veterans

Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation partnered with the American Warrior Initiative (AWI) to host four events across the New England area. In Massachusetts and Vermont, three residential housing “Boot Camps” were also hosted to train real estate professionals on how to handle the home purchase needs of active duty and military veterans with excellence.

Each event raised funds to support the AWI veteran initiative that allowed for local veterans to be honored with much needed gifts. In Burlington, VT, a former Army engineer recovering from a traumatic brain injury was given a housing grant to make necessary repairs to her home. In Danvers, MA, a local veteran received support for his ongoing commitment to helping veterans who are recovering from addiction and PTSD. In Sturbridge, MA, a sizeable donation was made to the National Education for Assistance Dog Services organization to help fund a service dog for a local veteran.

PJ McHenry, Branch Manager of Fairway’s branch in Burlington, VT, had such a wonderful experience participating in the hosting of these events. He commented:

This was one of the proudest moments in my professional life. To be associated with such a great company and people who support our partners and our veterans is amazing. We are looking forward to next year already.”

Auburn, MA, Branch Manager Bill Murphy enjoyed having the opportunity to participate in and host an AWI event. He said:

Incredible event with a powerful message from Louise and Sean. Many veterans don’t even apply using the VA loan, which is a huge benefit because they may be talked out of it and it’s important for agents and lenders to help reiterate the benefits of homeownership through VA financing. It’s our job to be the watchdog looking over these heroes.”

In addition to the “Boot Camps,” the Massachusetts branches of Fairway and AWI came together to host the Lead the Way 5K Boston, a national fundraising tour supporting AWI led by the first recipient of the AWI campaigns and now Ambassador, Ben Lunak (USMC). This inaugural event was attended by over 40 people and raised $2,000 to be donated directly to AWI.

Sean Parnell, decorated Army Ranger and author of the NY Times best-selling book Outlaw Platoon, was a speaker at many of these events. Parnell is a recipient of two Bronze Stars, one for Valor, and a Purple Heart. Now retired from the Army, Parnell serves as Goodwill Ambassador for Fairway and Co-Founder of the American Warrior Initiative alongside Louise Thaxton.

The American Warrior Initiative is a national non-profit organization sponsored by Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation. AWI seeks to ease the transition for U.S. veterans between military and civilian life.

I am proud to work for a company who is a proud supporter of the American military and has helped thousands of active military personnel and veterans nationwide with their home mortgage needs. I feel extremely fortunate to be able to give back to these brave veterans and their families.
