wisconsin-dells-photoA Fairway Independent Mortgage branch in Dells, Wisconsin, partnered with the American Warrior Initiative (AWI) to honor two veterans with a service dog to aid each of them in everyday life. In collaboration with the event, a residential housing “Boot Camp” was also held to train real estate professionals on how to handle the home purchase needs of active duty and military veterans with excellence.

The first honoree, Don Guzan, is a U.S. Marine and Vietnam veteran. Don suffers from PTSD as well as Bipolar Spectrum Disorder as a result of being involved in combat operations. Don will benefit tremendously from this awesome gift! Nicole Meadowcroft of Custom Canines is looking forward to seeing how Don’s new dog, Slick, will positively impact his life. She said:

Don met his ‘match’ today! We are training his PTSD service dog, Slick, to enhance his life! We are looking forward to the journey to changing this veteran’s life! Slick is a three-month-old English Shepherd. So far, so good! Thanks again for sponsoring this team!”

The second honoree at the event was Shaun Bundy. Since Shaun was a small child, he wanted to join the U.S. Army. After serving, Shaun was diagnosed with PTSD and was honorably discharged. The gift of a service dog will help Shaun overcome many symptoms of PTSD such as insomnia, depression, and fear of being around other people.

Fairway Branch Manager, Gregg Steinhaus, was thrilled to be a part of this amazing and touching event. He commented:

The AWI team has done an amazing job educating us about what our veterans are going through upon their return to civilian life. Attending one of these events is a life-changing experience, and opens our eyes to the support we all need to give our veterans.”

The American Warrior Initiative is a national non-profit organization sponsored by Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation. AWI seeks to ease the transition for U.S. veterans between military and civilian life.

I am honored to work for a company who is a proud supporter of the American military and has helped thousands of active military personnel and veterans nationwide with their home mortgage needs. I feel extremely fortunate to be able to give back to these brave veterans and their families.
