Your garage can serve as more than a place to park your car and house additional storage. Many homeowners find it useful to have a place for tools and a workspace for small repairs. Having an organized workbench in your garage will allow you to keep smaller tools organized as well as house larger items like drills, sanders and more. Most DIY enthusiasts store everything – from paint cans, to scraps of wood from previous projects, and having a proper organizational system makes for quicker access for repairs or tasks.
Follow these creative storage solutions to keep your workbench organized and functional:
- Pegboards on the wall behind your workbench allow for excellent storage space. There are many add-on hooks available for storage solutions as well as baskets that can be hung for smaller items. Pegboards also allow you to customize your hanging space and make adjustments as you acquire new items.
- Metal clothing racks can be mounted to a wall or hung on a pegboard to keep wrenches and other tools ordered.
- Screw the lid of small plastic jars to the bottom of a wooden shelf and use the jars to store small items such as screws, nails, nuts, bolts and other small items. You can also add magnets to the backs of jars and attach them to a magnetic strip to serve the same purpose.
By attaching a metal tool holder on the side of your workbench, you can organize drill bits and other small metal tools.
- Place plastic drawers or bins under your workbench to organize larger items. Smaller sets of plastic drawers can be placed on top of the bench for nails and smaller items.
